Following a storming sell out show at 53 Degrees last September, Friendly Fires will be returning to the venue on Thursday 12th November.
Tickets for the cancelled show on May 22nd are still valid for this event.
Playing dance-oriented music with the scratchy riffs of indie pop but the insistent pulse and sultry basslines of disco, Friendly Fires are Ed Macfarlane on vocals and keyboards, Edd Gibson on guitar, and Jack Savidge on drums.
The St Albans trio met whilst at school and like many teenage boys they started a band, lead singer Ed Macfarlane says “When we were 13/14 we would just cover like Green Day stuff. Sounds so uncool!” However, unlike the majority of most teenage bands, and even the majority of high school friends, the guys have stuck together, separating briefly to attend different Universities. Constantly swapping CDs and sharing influences, Ed, Edd and Jack now take their diverse musical tastes from house to post-rock and distil them to make: “Pop music, whatever that means now. Songs with catchy hooks, songs that you can sing along with” describes Ed Macfarlane.
Their remarkable debut album received great critical acclaim and 2009 looks blindingly bright for Friendly Fires. With a European tour, an American tour with White Lies, a UK tour and probably lots of festivals, they are fast becoming one of the UK’s top bands. Make sure you catch them in Preston!
